What is a AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin?

The AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin can be used for claiming preferential tariff treatment under Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement. The Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) is a bilateral trade agreement between Australia and India. AI-ECTA helps secure access to the fast-growing Indian market of over 1.4 billion people and gives Australian businesses opportunities for trade diversification.

AI-ECTA preferential Rules of Origin (ROO) are agreed criteria used to ensure that only goods that meet the AI-ECTA origin criteria receive AI-ECTA preferential rates. 

A good shall be regarded as originating under AI-ECTA if it is:

  • wholly obtained or produced in the territory of one or both of the Parties, as provided for in Article 4.4 (Wholly Obtained or Produced Goods); or
  • produced entirely in the territory of one or both of the Parties, using non-originating materials, provided the good satisfies all applicable requirements of Article 4.3 (Goods not Wholly Produced or Obtained) or Annex 4B (Product Specific Rules of Origin).

How to obtain an AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin

Step 1:
Complete the Exporter Information Form (CO4) to register your business with us.

Step 2:
Send your completed form to exportdocs.cbd@businessaustralia.com.

Step 3:
Once your form has been received and accepted, we will send you the AI-ECTA Certificate of Origin template with the corresponding instructions on how to complete the document.
