A fresh proposal to reform NSW’s workers’ compensation scheme will put downward pressure on premiums and ensure injured workers are looked after.
That’s the view of peak business organisation Business NSW, which has welcomed a commonsense package to pass the workers compensation bill currently before parliament.
The proposed amendments are expected to change the way permanent psychological injuries are assessed.
Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter said: “This proposal is an important, commonsense compromise that would bring much needed certainty and sustainability of premiums for the 320,000 NSW businesses that pay workers’ compensation premiums.”
“A do-nothing scenario would see premiums rise 36% over three years, forcing one in five of our members to shut their doors. The deal ensures many businesses can survive and hopefully thrive.
“Our members have been saying all along that premiums need to stop spiralling. This deal will have a direct impact on this.”
