LATEST ERUPTION OF RAIL NETWORK CHAOS “ECONOMIC VANDALISM”
“The latest eruption of union disruption on Sydney’s rail network on Valentine's Day of all days is a stark example of economic vandalism and industrial bastardry,’ says Paul Nicolaou, Executive Director of Business Sydney.
“It is disturbing that after months of this chaos Transport for NSW has today had to warn passengers of expected lengthy delays, service cancellations and very large service gaps following a high level of staff absences due to industrial action.
“This ongoing campaign is sapping confidence in our city with businesses for months hit hard by transport disruption deterring people from coming into the city for work, shopping and entertainment.
“Today with Valentine’s Day, businesses could have expected more activity in the city but now they can expect to see more bookings cancelled.
“Even after this dispute is eventually resolved, it will take a long time for confidence to be restored in our wonderful city."
Unfortunately, there is currently no prospect of a settlement and our city economy will continue to be damaged by this ongoing economic vandalism.”
