FUEL COST CUT WILL OFFER RELIEF TO BUSINESSES
Business NSW welcomes the suspension of the heavy vehicle road user charge in response to the fuel crisis, saying the move will provide immediate relief to freight operators and the businesses that rely on them.
Business NSW has been calling for targeted, practical measures to keep goods moving as fuel costs surge, including relief for the transport and logistics sector as part of a broader response to protect business supply chains across NSW.
Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter said suspending the charge was a commonsense step to reduce pressure on an industry that underpins the entire economy.
“To keep businesses trading and shelves stocked, trucks have to keep moving,” Mr Hunter said.
“The freight and transport sector is critical to keeping the NSW economy functioning.
“This is a targeted and sensible measure that will help transport operators manage soaring costs and continue doing their job under extremely challenging conditions.”
Mr Hunter also welcomed the announcement to halve fuel excise for three months, noting it would deliver short-term cost relief to both businesses and consumers.
“Any reduction in fuel costs will be welcomed by businesses that are already under severe strain,” he said.
“However, these measures come with trade-offs. The budget impact is significant, and there is a risk that increased demand could place further pressure on fuel supply.
“The business community welcomes the focus from the government and National Cabinet on managing the fuel crisis, and we will be closely examining the National Fuel Security Plan released today.”
