Jindabyne, Australia’s Alpine Playground and so much more

It’s full of thrills for the adventure seeker, having a healthy supply of bucket list items. Thankfully, it’s also a place of beauty and awesomeness, relaxation and rejuvenation. You’ll find a holiday home for yourself, or three generations of your family. Restaurants and cafes will keep you fuelled up for the ride, and coffee is always first.

So, who’s up for an Australian adventure holiday? It’s ‘mountain time’ in  Jindabyne, meaning an early start soaking up every second of sunshine. Breakfast is easy, local cafes are all close-by. Evening dining is a delight, you can literally travel the world in restaurants. Choices include Italian, Japanese, Austrian, Greek, Persian, Thai, Chinese and Indian cuisine, and the Aussie kind in spades.

That’s one of the greatest things about the Snowies, it’s multiculturalism. It's a second home for so many, where everybody belongs. There’s no end to the adventures in Jindabyne. New in 2021, is the e-foil flite-board, which takes the already popular SUP boards (stand up paddle-boards), to a whole new level.

Jump in a runabout and try your luck in the Snowy Trout Challenge. If all else fails, visit the Gaden Trout Hatchery to spot many rainbow trout at once. Just for fun, hire a canoe and paddle out to Lion Island, it’s an awesome way to spend your day.

Catamarans are also available for hire, or for a real spectacle, watch as Lake Jindabyne Sailing Club manoeuvre their boats on the water on Wednesday evenings or Saturday afternoons. In case you missed the bike-rack memo, Jindabyne is a mountain biker’s mogul-run. If you forgot yours, there’s at least four outlets, consider an e-bike. They’re electric-bikes, taking the pressure off pedalling for maximum enjoyment. Head along the foreshore looking for the Jindabyne Trail Stewardship maps as you go. Hatchery Bay is an easy place to start. There’s no better way to see the whole picture, but to rise above it. Charter flights are now on the tourist menu.

Touring from Jindabyne Airport, you can drop in for wine, beer or schnapps tasting, have a romantic picnic at a secluded mountain hut, or circle Mount Kosciuszko and be back in time for dinner. There are any number of ways to relax when you’re done actively exploring. Holidays in Jindabyne tend to need another after the first is over. R & R options include massage, health and beauty spa treatments, a wander through the Jindabyne Art Gallery, a spot of horse riding in the Thredbo Valley, an afternoon in the sun around the lake, or take a day to discover Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa.

This is important... make absolutely sure you’re outside at sunset. It’s the prettiest time of day. There’s no better way to reflect on your day of fun in the Snowy Mountains. Face west and welcome the beauty that only Jindabyne can offer, and when it’s all over, make plans to visit twice next year.
