Back to Berry - For Simpler Times

Enjoy the scenery of the open road as you make your way towards a simpler time, like the carefree holidays of your childhood. Lush green hills and a glimpse of beach that emerges from around the last Kiama bend are like a balm for the soul. You are in the country now and it’s as if time slows to a more mindful, indulgent pace.Berry's quaint weatherboard cottages and white picket fences are a blast from the past.

There is plenty of choice for somewhere to stay from farm stays to luxury mountain retreats or cute but well-appointed cottage stays in town. The main street is alive with a truly enormous array of independent shops and businesses. From artisan bakers and cosmopolitan cafes, chocolate shops and retro lolly stores, to a shop dedicated to tea. Take your time and amble through boutique retail stores selling everything from fashion and homewares to furniture, antiques, doorknobs, candles, beads, fabrics, books, eyewear and more. Boasting an eclectic selection of fine wine and craft beers, check out the local bottle shop and enjoy a tipple in cosy comfort by a crackling fire.

Pair your local delights with Silos Estate showcasing their award-winning wines and a cellar door experience as well as romantic cottage accommodation options overlooking an impressive vineyard. When it comes to food, you will be spoilt for choice Thai, Indian curry, Italian, pizza or gourmet burgers. Berry is a food lovers delight! One restaurant not to miss is the SMH Good Food Guide acclaimed South On Albany.

Much loved by locals and visitors alike, they serve locally sourced produce that is out-of-this-world. Berry has become a hub for fine-dining restaurants over the past five years with Queen Street Eatery & Wine Bar offering a relaxed and approachable French-inspired menu with a South Coast spin. Alternatively, Mountain Ridge Wines is a family-run farm, vineyard and restaurant that hold a monthly ‘market garden dinner’, offering a three-course meal that highlights their home-grown product from the month.

The great outdoors? Five minutes from Berry you will be at Seven Mile Beach to blow the cobwebs away on empty windswept and untamed sands? Or cycle your way around Berry’s quiet mountain and valley roads to see why the area has been selected as part of the L'Étape by Tour De France event.Designated as a historic town, Berry is steeped in history.  A gentle stroll around will tell you all about the NSW heritage-listed properties of the town and its rich past.

No trip to Berry is complete without a visit to The Famous Berry Donut Van. A caravan serving fresh hot cinnamon doughnuts for over 55 years. And perhaps it is this about Berry which reminds us of the happy times of our youth. Where people smile and wave in the streets and nothing needs to happen too fast. Berry has changed a lot since the 1960s, but much of that nostalgia and spirit remains.
