Or for a much faster way to experience the river, visit Brett Sands Watersports is your one-stop shop for all things fast and fun on the water. Try Wakeboarding, Waterskiing, Barefooting or Kneeboarding. They offer gear hire and demonstrations, as well as lessons for all skill levels and ages.
Off the river, you can try a round of mini golf at the picturesque Rich River Golf Club, or a game of bare foot bowls at the Moama Bowling Club. Hire an E-Bike from Green Pedal Cycles and explore the natural beauty of Echuca-Moama’s back yard; a natural landscape of magnificent river red gums, breathtaking river panoramas, local history and a myriad of native wildlife. Moama’s bushland offers a wide variety of walking and cycling trails, winding along the banks of the Murray and through productive ecosystems. Keep your toes dry, take the kids fishing and camp at one of the many caravan parks or state parks alongside the Murray and delve into the raw, pure landscape of River Country.
The Port of Echuca offers something for the whole family. Indulge in some retail therapy and browse the boutique clothing stores, sample the locally produced chocolate at the Echuca Chocolate Company or visit the Port of Echuca Discovery Center and learn all about the towns historic riverboat trade and shipbuilding industry with interactive displays to engage the kids and plenty of historical exhibits for the big kids. They also offer guided tours including the Port After Dark Tour and the Kids Adventure Tour.
Although Echuca-Moama is known for the many sunny and hot days, you can still enjoy the River during the cooler months by touring the river on a paddle steamer cruise. Known as the paddlesteamer capital of the world, the region is home to the world’s largest fleet of operating paddlesteamers. Echuca was once a bustling inland port becoming the second largest port to operate in Victoria. Once near the river you’ll hear the distinctive sound of the paddlesteamer whistles and gentle chugging motion. A trip to the twin towns isn’t complete without experiencing one of the multiple paddlesteamer cruises that operate daily. The world’s oldest wooden hull paddlesteamer to still be operating, the PS Adelaide is one of these vesicles, available to take you for a cruisey afternoon to enjoy the natural beauty of the river environment.
If you're lucky enough to be in town during July, you'll get to experience the annual Moama Lights show; an immersive sound and light trail that showcases stories from across the region through state-of-the-art installations, projections and cutting edge moving-light technology. The clear winter evenings will be transformed by beautiful light displays, an enticing show, local stories and an impressive backdrop takes you on a unique journey along the upgraded footbridges at Horseshoe Lagoon.
Explore in your own time, walking the path towards the historic Moama Wharf surrounded by towering river redgums, and soak in the dusk sounds of this natural riverine lagoon.
