The Insta-Worthy Destination That Will Fill Your Feed

Do you need to escape the city and fill your soul, heart, belly, and Instagram feed? Then look no further than Huskisson, the stunning region on the south coast of New South Wales has it all. Whether you're into watersports, hiking, or just enjoying good food and cocktails with a view, Huskisson has something for every adventurous couple or groups of grown ups traveling together.

Start your trip in February, when active people from all over come together for the Husky Triathlon. You'll fall in love with the beauty of the place and want to come back when it's quieter and cooler in late Autumn. The white sand beaches are perfect for that vacation Instagram shot, and the sweeping views over town as you stroll the shops and cafes are simply breathtaking.

‘Husky’ as the locals affectionately call it, places you near the 16 white sand beaches of Jervis Bay. Hot tip? It's Jervis Bay not ‘Jarvis Bay’! You may have heard of Hyams Beach, but all 16 are as spectacular as the next, so follow the path less-travelled and find your own favourite white sand beach. With Husky as your base, bring your own bike or hire one from Around Jervis Bay Bikes, who will drop them off at your accommodation, and set off on the coastal ‘Round the Bay’ track, an accessible coastal pathway that links the half dozen beaches between Huskisson and Vincentia together.

For those who love to play, there are endless options. Swim with the whales during their annual migration with Woebegone Freedive or Dive Jervis Bay, truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, or paddle year-round with Dane from  Sea Kayak Jervis Bay who always has his camera ready to capture cool reels of dolphin interactions. Get silly and gather some friends for a Giant SUP with Dive Jervis Bay, six people can pile on, just make sure you have someone ready to shoot the shenanigans from shore!

For a deeper and more immersive experience, visit Booderee National Park, one of only a handful of parks in Australia that are co-managed by Parks Australia and the local Aboriginal community, such as Kakadu and Uluru. Fun fact? Jervis Bay Territory is an official federal port for our capital, so when you cross into Booderee you’re kind of heading interstate! Book an Aboriginal experience with the local Wreck Bay people such as Aunty Julie or Poppy Mac or enjoy the self-guided interpretive walks and beautiful country that traverse both white sand and surf beaches such as Cave Beach.

Huskisson also offers a variety of culinary experiences. Jump on your bikes again and chase sundowners around town and enjoy some nibbles at WildGinger, or head to the Pavilion at Huskisson for a Jervis Bay Distillery gin flight and smoked American BBQ eats served from a cool '70s airstream caravan. Sip cocktails at Seratonin on Currambene while enjoying vegan bites, or indulge in absolute waterfront with bubbles and oysters at Portside Café. For a unique experience, visit the two great breweries on the outskirts of town, Flamin Galah and Jervis Bay Brewing Co. They both offer casual outdoor seating, great food trucks, and local brews, wines, and cocktails, and are pet friendly. Make sure to grab some of the brand-new Jervis Bay Mussels and local prawns and oysters from Jervis Bay Shellfish to enjoy at home when you visit the breweries.

When it's time to chill for the night, Huskisson offers some of the most Instagrammable accommodation. Stay in the unique Mabel the Airstream or Gracie the Gypsy Caravan, both offering cool retro vibes, and on the same property in Huskisson, perfect for a pair of couples. For a spectacular nature stay, why not glamp at The Dome, a clear bubble tent with an outdoor bath where you can relax with a glass of local wine amongst the trees, or stay in complete luxury at Paperbark Camp, the original glamping resort in Australia recently celebrating 30 years since the Hamilford family was inspired to create this amazing retreat after a safari trip to Africa. For a peaceful bush escape with outdoor fire pits and friendly kangaroos Bay and Bush is a must-visit, keep an eye out for their Detox and Revive 3-day retreats, where you can really reset, align your chakras, and find your way back to 'self'.

Huskisson is the perfect destination for your next getaway as a couple or a crew of friends, just make sure you clear plenty of space on your phone or camera to take in all the wonders and beauties, and don’t forget to tag @visitshoalhaven @visithuskisson.
