There are not many small regional beach towns that can boast not one, but two Australian Good Food Guide Chef Hatted restaurants - but Cabarita sure can!
A stalwart in this national award of food distinction, Paper Daisy at Halcyon House is all sea-breeze ambiance, flawless style, and sophisticated simplicity with dishes that are satisfying, thoughtful and deeply memorable.
Across the road is a more recent Cabarita arrival, No 35 Kitchen and Bar, awarded a Chef Hat within its first year and delighting locals and visitors with its casual but impeccable styling, service and menu, which is tantalisingly pitched as "Italian-ish".
Cabarita's food scene excels at the more casual end as well with Nectar Juice House on hand to start the day with DIY sandwiches, tempting baked goods and locally made sourdough crumpets.
Next up, the Beach Hotel or Pandanus Cafe each serves up tasty fare for a relaxed lunch beside the sea. Don't miss the 80s vibes and mouth-watering goodness at Rita's Burgers using fresh local ingredients. Round out your day with a delicious palate-refresher at Get the Scoop Gelato.
Drink: For a healthy sip start to your day, the great team at Nectar is also experts in cold-pressed juices and super healthy smoothies and you'll find a coffee mecca in Kartel Espresso, just up from the central town hub and loved by locals.
As the day lingers into cocktail hour, get yourself to The Burrow, a welcoming neighbourhood bar that favours local Tweed-made sips. Try a refreshing brew by Earth Beer Company in nearby Cudgen, a Husk Distillers' Ink Gin, made in Tumbulgum and - best of all - ask for a Soltera Rum, made by local Keri Algar who distills these tasty tipples right here in the village via her business, Cabarita Spirits.
Play: Voted Australia's Best Beach in 2020, it's little wonder that surfing is top on the play list for many visitors to Cabarita. With its easterly aspect to the azure Pacific Sea, Caba's exposed point break rewards with reliable waves delivering riders right to the village shoreline.
For a gorgeous short hike, head up the steps to Norries Headland - a good way to stretch your legs while taking in stunning 360 views from ocean to valley and an ideal surf-watch spot. Take to two wheels and hire a bike along the main street at Cabarita Beach Cycles to explore the coastal track that runs seaside up to Kingscliff or hire a kayak to paddle the still waters of nearby Cudgen Creek.
Or simply feel the joy of splashing in the sea and body-surfing the saltwater waves of Cabarita Beach.
Shop: If you fall in love with Cabarita's effortless beach vibe, why not take it home! Browse and buy at Tulum Home where you'll find seaside-inspired tones and designs from light fittings and table settings to gorgeous furniture, fashion for all ages and art for your walls.
Pop into the sweet Corner Collective too for colourful beach-wear, glassware for your favourite sips, and green plants and baskets to energise the home. If surf style is what you're after, you're in luck! Head to Cabarita Surf to snap up swimwear, surfboards, beach cabanas, shorts and frocks, and a whole lot more.
Stay: Cabarita has so many options for overnighting to suit a range of tastes and budgets. For an ultimate luxury experience book in at the boutique Halcyon House where interior designed rooms overlook the lavish pool and blue sea beyond. You can also dine at Halcyon's Paper Daisy and soothe body and soul at Halcyon Spa.
